Essential Oil Recipes

Herbal Infused Oil - Quick Method
2-3 oz dried herbs or 3-4 oz. fresh 1 1/4 cups oil (preferably sunflower or
olive) A heatproof container with a tight-fitting lid (jam jars?). Chop the
herb and put it in the container with all the oil. Put the container in a pan
filled with water to within 1 inch of the top of the container of oil. Simmer
slowly for two hours. After 2 hours, allow the oil to cool, and strain well.
Discard the spent herbs (makes lovely compost). Refill the canister with the
remaining herbs and return to the water bath (remember to replace the lid).
Simmer for another 2 hours Be sure to check the water level occasionally so
as to not burn the oil. When the oil has cooled enough to work with, pour it
through a jelly bag or sieve lined with cheesecloth. If using fresh herbs,
there may be a water liquid at the bottom of the oil. This must be separated
and discarded, or else it will spoil the oil over time. This oil can be used
as a base for ointments, creams, or salves, or as a massage oil.

How to Make Oils
There are four common methods used for making oils. Each of these methods is
highly effective and is used professionally as well as for home use.
Solar Infusion Method place desired amount of herbs and oil in glass jar.
Cover tightly. Place jar in a warm, sunny spot. Let the oil/herb mixture
infuse for two weeks. People always ask why the oil doesn't go rancid sitting
out in the hot sun. According to natural laws, it should. But for some
magickal reason, it seldom does. I believe it's because of the alchemical
fusion of the sun, the herbs, and the oil. But once strained, the oil will
definitely go rancid very quickly if left in the hot sun. At the end of two
weeks, strain the herbs, rebottle your herbal oil and store in a cool dark
area. If you wish a stronger oil, add a fresh batch of herbs to the oil, and
infuse for two more weeks. This will double the potency of your medicinal
oil.
Oven Extraction Method Place the oil/herb mixture in pan with a tight-fitting
lid or in glass canning jars. Put the pan and/or jars in a larger pan with
sufficient water to cover bottom half of the container. Turn oven on the
lowest temperature possible and allow the herbs and oil to infuse for several
hours. Check frequently to prevent the oil from overheating and burning.
Double Boiler Method
Place herbs and oil in double boiler, cover with tight-fitting lid, and bring
to low simmer. Slowly heat for 1/2 to one hour, checking frequently to be
sure the oil is not overheating. Then lower the heat, and the longer the
infusion, the better the oil. This is a quick and simple method that appeals
to many modern-day herbalists. Oil heats up very quickly. Be mindful of the
temperature. or preparation can quickly go from a nice herbal oil infusion to
deep-fried Comfrey leaves.
Crackpot and Electric Oven Roaster Method
Both Crockpots and electric oven roasters allow for long, slow cooking
process. The roaster is most often used by small professional companies
making quality herbal products. The herbs can macerate in the oil for a long
period of time (two to four weeks) and the resulting oil is of a superior
quality. Place herbs and oil in the Crackpot or roaster and turn to lowest
heat. Place lid on and let mixture steep for desired length of time. The heat
is generally higher in the Crackpot and usually 2 to 4 hours is sufficient to
prepare good-quality herbal oils. Check frequently to protect against
overheating and burning. In the roaster, the herb/oil mixture can steep for
two to four weeks. It gives a superior, dark-green herbal oil.
There are several approaches to creating a magickal herbal oil. Most
difficult, is to use an extractor and extract the pure essential oils
yourself. It involves complex equipment, but is rewarding for the serious
practitioner. The results are pure, essential oils which can be used in a
variety of ways. Pure oils of an essential, volatile nature may also be
purchased commercially. It is important to know that many of these are too
strong to use directly upon the skin, but make excellent incense by merely
placing a few drops upon a burning piece of charcoal. These oils may also be
used with a fixative, or carrier, such as olive, sunflower, or other oils.

ANTI - BRUISING OIL

You will need:
1/8 cup of veggie oil,
5 drops of rosemary,
3 drops of chamomile
2 drops of lavender

mix it gently, then with the back of the spoon you mixed it with, smear some
on the bruise or injury and the surrounding area! Leave it sit for a minimum
of 10 minutes, then gently dab off excess! Rosemary will take the bruising
away, and the chamomile and lavender will help with the swelling!! You can
also blend these oils together in a similar ratio and put in slightly cool
water, and soak that way.

Anointing Oil
For just general anointing stuff

What you need:

2 dram (10mL) clean amber or cobalt vial
apricot kernel oil (has vitamin E for preservation)
6 drops sandalwood mysore e.o.
3 drops oakmoss
2 drops frankincense
1 drop myrrh

Add the essential oils first to the bottle and swirl them gently in order
to get them blended.  Add any crystals (make sure they are clean too) and
then add your base oil to top the bottle off.  I don't use crystals in all
my blends but some people add crystals to their magical blends to keep them
charged with a specific intention.  Make sure to keep the oils stored away
from light and write on a sticker or piece of paper to be taped on the name
of the blend, time, date, moon phase, planetary hour and any other info you
wish so that you know what you made and when for use later.
As well, be careful as these blends will eventually go off so use your
sniffer and be aware of what the blend should smell like.  Once it seems
off, you can discard it, clean the bottle and start a fresh!

Essential oils are volatile so bottles left with tops off will soon lose
their potency.  Ensure that oils don't get too hot and, in the case of oils
like citrus-based oils, not too cold.  To test your essential oils to see
if they are pure, put a drop or two on blotter paper.  Genuine essential
oils will evaporate completely.

Astral Dreams Oil

Here's what you'll need:

90 mL of grapseed oil
10 drops frankincense
10 drops myrrh
10 drops sandalwood
10 drops clary sage
10 drops chamomile
10 drops jasmine
10mL of a 5% dilution of narcissus

Mix these oils by candlelight on the night of the maiden full moon in
a
cobalt blue bottle. Now store in a dark place away from natural
sunlight
and shake gently every morning and evening for the 3 days of the full
moon.
When ready to use, first apply a small amount to the inside of your
elbow
and wait 24h to check for reactions. Then if it is safe, apply a small
amount to the soles of your feet and lie back and relax. Use whatever
method
you prefer to prepare to astral travel and while you prepare, the
mixture
will be doing its work.

Keep this mix away from your eyes nose, mouth and other sensitive
areas of
your body. Do *not* ingest this mixture, use for cooking or massage.
As this
mixture contains oils with contraindications, I suggest that you
avoid using
this mix if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure.

DragonsBane Protection Oil

* a 1 dram glass vial
* Sweet Almond Oil - a thick base oil with a gentle scent
* 1/4 - 1/2 gram of amber resin
* 2 drops jasmine essential oil
* 4 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
* 3 drops frangipani essential oil (precious oil)
* 1 drop silver birch oil (should smell like smoke *NOT* like spearmint)
* a generous pinch or 2 small pieces dragons blood resin

Place the amber in first, then the dragons blood. Add on top of that
frangipani and jasmine and give a slight shake. Let sit for 10 min. in
the dark or in the moonlight (capped). Carefully uncap after 10 min and
add the Ylang Ylang and recap to shake gently. Add sweet almond oil half
way to the top and add the silver birch oil. Fill with sweet almond to
almost the top, leaving room for some air and shake well. Fill to the
top with sweet almond and cap tightly. Store carefully away from light
for no more than 3 months - really for no more than 1 if to be used near
or on skin.

Test before using. To test, place a small amount of oil on your inner
elbow for a night. If you have a reaction, do not use anywhere on your
body. Frangipani is a common synthetic - please use only pure resins and
essential oils in this recipe. Silver or white birch oil is dark, very
thick and smells like smoke. Please be sure you are buying the correct
one. If in doubt, ask.

Fiery Wall of Protection Oil

Source: The Element Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells, Judika Illes

Blend powered Dragon’s Blood and sea salt together in a mortal and pestle.

Frankincense and Myrrh are required. If you are using solid resins, grind them together with the ingredients in Step 1. If you prefer to use Essential Oils, add them last, following step 3.

Add these to castor oil, which has it’s own protective qualities. You may wish to add jojoba oil as a preservative, but also so that the oil will flow nicely.

Some variations suggest adding ground ginger and/or cinnamon too. Just remember that these are skin irritants and may limit the uses of the oil. Without those ingredients, Fiery Wall can be added to the bath or worn as a protective perfume.

Four Sun Goddess Recipes
Copyright © 1997 by Wade

I make each of these oil recipes, annually, for either the Summer
Solstice or Vernal Equinox Sabbaths for dear friends of mine. They
cherish them! For each recipe you will need a 1 1/2 or 2 Oz bottle
suitible for a Priest or Priestess of a Sun Goddess! The recipes are
as follows:

Eostre Oil (Teutonic Goddess of the Dawn)

* 1 dram Heliotrope Oil
* 1 dram Violet Oil
* 1 pinch sea salt
* Sunflower Oil, as a base

(See instructions below, under Bast Oil!)

Isis OIl

* 1 dram Heliotrope Oil
* 1 dram heather Oil
* 1 drop Jasmine or Blue Lotus Oil
* 1 pinch sea salt
* Sunflower Oil, as a base

(See instructions below, under Bast Oil!)

Eos Oil (Greek Goddess of the Rosey Dawn!)

* 1 dram Heliotrope OIl
* 1/2 dram Rose Oil (because it's so over powering!)
* 1 pinch sea salt
* Sunflower Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as a base

(See instructions below, under Bast Oil!)

Bast OIl

* 1 dram Heliotrope Oil
* 1 dram Catnip Oil
* 1 pinch sea salt
* Sunflower Oil, as a base

Combine the Essential Oils into the bottle, add a pinch of sea salt,
and cover (to the top) with the base oil. Shake after each
addition. Bring into your Magick Space, light a gold candle on the
left, yellow candle on the right, and charge during the ritual. Dab
(or anoint yourself) on both your wrists, forhead (Third Eye) and the
back of your neck. Also use in various rituals & spells! The salt
will act as a preservative, extending the shelf life of each potion
for quite a long while. Every autentically trained Aromatherapist
whom I have spoken with has echoed those exact sentiments, as a
lovely jewel of knowledge.
