Autumn Goddess Charge

Image
AUTUMN GODDESS CHARGE I am the waning moon The Goddess who is fading from the land In the Springtime I sought my Lord And mated with him beneath the trees and stars At Beltane I wed my Lord Beneath the first blossoms of the hawthorn tree And in the Summertime I ripened the apples in the orchards And the fruit grew round and strong At the corn harvest I cut down my Lord That by his death our people might be fed And now in the Autumn time I descend beneath the Earth To dwell with my Lord in his dark kingdom Until our child is born At the Winter Solstice I will bring forth the child And renew your hope And at Candlemas I myself will return To renew the land I leave you, but I return to you When you see my power fade And the leaves fall from the trees When snow obliterates like death All trace of me upon the Earth Then look for me in the Moon And in the heavens, you will see the soul of me Soaring still among the stars And in that darkest time When the Moon is covered by shadow And th...

Autumn Full Moon

Image
How To Celebrate An Autumn Full Moon - Group Ceremony In addition to -- or instead of -- holding a monthly Esbat rite, some Wiccan and Pagan groups prefer to have a season-specific full moon ceremony. During the autumn months, the harvest season begins with the Corn Moon in late August, and continues through September's Harvest Moon and the Blood Moon of October. If you'd like to celebrate one or more of these moon phases with a ritual specific to the harvest, it's not hard. This rite is written for a group of four people or more, but if you needed to, you could easily adapt it for a solitary practitioner. What You Need: Candles for each of the four quarters  A cup of wine or cider  Symbols of the harvest to decorate the altar   Try to hold this ritual outside. Fall nights are usually crisp and cool, and a perfect time for outdoor rituals. Ask each member of the group to bring an item to place on the altar -- something that represents the bounty of the harvest. Dec...

Make Poke-berry Ink for Mabon

Image
I like to make many things I use and I will try just about anything, I found this poke-berry ink recipe and I wanted to share it, I hope you find poke-berries easier than I have It does really really stain, so be warned. It is toxic also so don't let anyone or critters drink or eat it. I keep mine in a dark bottle because it is light sensitive I do like using my inks for my BOS as well as some hand written spells and I hope you will try this recipe too. Have a blessed Mabon and enjoy the coming fall How to Make Poke-berry Ink Poke-weed is a purplish-red berry found in many parts of North America. In the Midwest and most northern states, it blooms in early fall, typically around mid-September -- just in time for Mabon. The poisonous red berries can be used to provide ink for writing - legend has it that the Declaration of Independence may have been drafted in poke-weed ink, although the final version that sits in the National Archives was done in iron-gall ink. Many lette...

A Bittersweet Moment of Balance: Mabon

Image
The Celtic festival of Mabon occurs around September 22nd; the hours of daylight and dark are equal for the second time in our year's Wheel. After the exuberance and heat of summer, we celebrate the Autumnal Equinox and journey to Samhain, turning our focus inward as the Crone's alchemy burnishes the landscape. Mother Earth is poised with the sun in time and space and we pause for a moment with her, to honor balance. This pivotal day stirs our regret for the things left unfinished, the trips not taken, the opportunities missed. The dwindling warm afternoons become small gifts of grace, as we witness the first touches of gold, the burnished beauty of the Crone's alchemy. What have we left unfinished? What words do we need to say someone? Time is changing us in its ever-winding spiral. We need to cherish each moment now - each warm afternoon, each lingering walk in honeyed sunlight. The harvest season is a bittersweet time of fruition; as we look back upon our labors...

Mabon Recipes

Image
Mabon is a holiday with three main themes: celebration, grace, and balance. Although these themes are present every day, now is the time to give them your full attention. Celebration This is the time for looking back upon the efforts of the past--not just this year, or the last, but also of your lifetime. Look back on these efforts of yours and your fellows and congratulate yourself on a job well done. Think of those things which you have done that contributed to the community as a whole. Use this knowledge of past effort to plan future contributions. Grace With all of the efforts put forth by yourself, there is always work on someone else's part that allowed you to build upon it. Mabon is an excellent time to give gracious thanks to all the time and energy put forth by others to help you. The work done by others not only helps you by making your work easier, it gives you a base to build higher than you could without it. Take what materi...

Celebrating The Eight Seasons

Image
It's inarguable that modern life affords us with many wonderful Conveniences the ancients never had, like electricity, telephones, and heating. With the planet Uranus, the computer genius, now in Aquarius, there's a lot More to come. Unfortunately, although these advances in communication and Technology have pulled us closer together intellectually, they've drawn us farther Away from our spiritual selves, and we've lost a great deal of the connection The ancients had with our mother, the Earth. One of the most important traditions we've lost is the concept of the Eight seasons. Yes, eight. Ancient peoples realized that the earth was Alive, and therefore in a constant state of change. They knew that those Changes occurred far more often then four times a year, and that, in fact, The Earth made a transition that was quite noticeable about eight times a year, Or every forty-five days. It makes sense, too, if you think about it. Take summer, for example. The Sun ...

Solitary Mabon

Image
This Ritual is best performed during the early evening hours, just after Sunset, as this is the time of day which corresponds to the time of year. Sweep area, starting in the North and moving deosil, with your magickal broom to cleanse the Circle area and "sweep away" any lingering negative energies. Lay out the circumference of your Circle with cord, stones, etc., as necessary. Set up the Quarter candles (North-Green, East-Yellow, South-Red, West- Blue) and/or other items symbolizing the elements at the Four Quarters (use a compass if not permanently marked out). Set up your altar as desired, and face it to the North, covering it with the red altar cloth. Place all of the items listed below in their proper places upon it. For this ceremony, decorate the altar with the cornucopia filled with harvest items, and whatever else feels right. In addition to your usual tools and props, upon the altar should be: Red or Brown Altar Cloth Cornucopia filled with Fruit...

Welcoming Autumn

By Ananaia O'Leary   Crisp air awakens the nostrils... Faint smell of smoke on the wind. Above birds wheel to the South. At night a sweater warms against the Chill. Autumn is here once more... A bitter-sweet season of rich harvest & fading summer.   On the Autumnal Equinox Nature hangs in perfect balance. Night & day are Equal in length. The Wheel turns and golden Summer yields to Autumn's Tawny hues. Nature exhales ... Turning inward from creation to Introspection, celebrating its bounty while preparing to shelter from The cold nights of Winter.   As in every season, we are invited to take our cues from rhythms of the Earth.   This is a time of harvest -- for giving thanks for the bounty in our lives.   If I hear myself respond "My life doesn't feel bountiful," it's time for Me to pause and go deeper... Deeper into awareness, into gratitude, into Celebration of the abundant gifts of Earth & Spirit. So I p...

Mabon Balance Meditation

Image
Celebrating the Dark and the Light By Patti Wigington, About.com Mabon is a time of balance, and this simple meditation will help you focus on bringing harmony to your life. Mabon is one of those times of year that affect people in different ways. For some, it's a season to honor the darker aspects of the goddess, calling upon that which is devoid of light. For others, it's a time of thankfulness, of gratitude for the abundance we have at the season of harvest. No matter how you see it, Mabon is traditionally a time of balance. After all, it's one of the two times each year that has equal amounts of darkness and daytime. Because this is, for many people, a time of high energy, there is sometimes a feeling of restlessness in the air, a sense that something is just a bit "off". If you're feeling a bit spiritually lopsided, with this simple meditation you can restore a little balance into your life. Setting the Mood Now that fall is here, why...

A Solitaire's Mabon

Image
Author Unknown This is the second harvest Sabbath. The Goddess is entering into crone hood, and the dark of the year is beginning, so this is a time often associated with mysterious lore and wisdom. The altar and circle should be decorated with autumn leaves, gourds, berries, pine and cypress cones, acorns, oak sprigs and other fruits of the season. New willow staves and wands were traditionally consecrated or empowered on this day, so if you've just recently cut one, you might want to bring it into the circle with you. You should also have a small basket filled with a variety of autumn leaves. The altar cloth shall be brown, and the altar candles shall be red. Light the incense and the altar candles, and cast the sacred circle. Then invoke the God and the Goddess. Pick up the basket of leaves and hold it in both hands. Spill the leaves slowly so that they cascade down to the ground within the circle as you say these words: The days grow colder, and the leaves fall. Ou...

Harvest Necklace

The months of August, September and October are typically the time for harvest festivals, feasts and celebrations in the northern hemisphere. It is a time when many cultures and spiritual paths celebrate the bounty of the Earth, give thanks for the blessings of this bounty and honor their deities connected with Harvest and the plant spirits.   It is a good time for us to reconnect with the cycles of Nature and receive teachings from the nature spirits and plant spirits.  Study some of the plant species in your area (foods, flowers, trees, etc.) and then take a walk outdoors and try to identify these species.  You will notice that some of these plants are beginning to set seed, and it is very interesting to look at all the different types of seed that exist in Nature!   You can create a necklace of seeds to wear during a Harvest celebration, or you may choose to use your "necklace" as an altar decoration or candle...
