People we just want to turn into bugs and squish!

Image
So I have to tell this story because some people can really irritate me at times.....the other day I was asked to do something that I would never consider being the Witch that I am.... I have this person that I talk to now and then, he is an elderly man who moved to my town just a couple years ago for a woman he met online, well that didn't work out and let me first say that he keeps saying what a good Christian man he is too. Seems he still stalks her online so I find out and the other night he asked me to put a hex on this person that I have never met, he asked me to put a spell or hex that would stop her from ever finding another person to love, can you believe that? Yes I know people do these things or wish for this often. Well I for one will have no part of any spell or hex on anyone, Let alone someone I have never met or have no reason to harm. This man mind you has told me that we should go out, because I am attractive to him and that I could take his mind off this ...

Celebrating The Eight Seasons

Image
It's inarguable that modern life affords us with many wonderful Conveniences the ancients never had, like electricity, telephones, and heating. With the planet Uranus, the computer genius, now in Aquarius, there's a lot More to come. Unfortunately, although these advances in communication and Technology have pulled us closer together intellectually, they've drawn us farther Away from our spiritual selves, and we've lost a great deal of the connection The ancients had with our mother, the Earth. One of the most important traditions we've lost is the concept of the Eight seasons. Yes, eight. Ancient peoples realized that the earth was Alive, and therefore in a constant state of change. They knew that those Changes occurred far more often then four times a year, and that, in fact, The Earth made a transition that was quite noticeable about eight times a year, Or every forty-five days. It makes sense, too, if you think about it. Take summer, for example. The Sun is...

Elemental Tool Blessing

Image
You can use this spell to bless an object like a new altar tool with the 4 elements. Take care if you are blessing a book or Tarot cards, some of these steps could be damaging. You'll need:       A white feather (air)     A bowl of dirt (earth)     A cup of water (water)     A red candle (fire)     Your item to be blessed     A white cloth large enough to wrap the object   Set all your elemental items on your altar and light the candle.   Touch the tip of the feather to your object, and say " I bless you with air"   Lightly touch the object with a bit of dirt, and say "I bless you with earth"   Dampen your fingertip and touch the object, saying "I bless you with water"   And pass the object through the smoke of the flame, saying "I bless you with fire"   After that, wrap up your item and leave in on your...

Traditional Room Smudge

Image
This is an old traditional way to cleanse and bless a room for this time of year, using a smoking stick of incense or bundle of herbs. You can use a number of different actual materials for smudging, such as:       A bundle of dried white sage or rosemary, lavender, sage sprigs     A stick of sandalwood, cedar or rosemary incense   All you have to do is light your smudge of choice, and blow out the flame so that it's smoking nicely. Walk around the room, letting the smoke flow to each of the corners of the space. If you want to bless a whole house, then just walk to each room and do the same thing.   Visualize the smoke pushing out the negative energy and leaving a clean energy behind. With each room, repeat:   By this smoke, I bless this space, By my words, I clean this place.   When you've added smoke to the area to be blessed, stub out the incense or smudge stick. )0(

What Witches Can't or Don't Do

There are a lot of expectations that Hollywood, the media, and society (post-Witch Craze society) has set up for us real witches to live up to. While most of us aren't ashamed that we can't do a lot of things (and we shouldn't be), it can be frustrating when people expect you to be able to. The following is a list of some things that witches can't do (in the expected way, at least). Point at something and make it do whatever we want. It's just not possible. At least not that I know of. If you know someone who can, let me know ;) This was an ability that was re- popularized the appearance of the tv show Bewitched, and the character Sabrina (who has now developed into Sabrina the Teenaged Witch) from the Archie comics. Versions of this probably existed before the invention of tv as well. Do cool tricks with fire I'm thinking along the lines of The Craft and Charmed here. In The Craft, the "good-witch-lady" lit one candle and all t...

Wicca and Paganism

Wicca and Paganism both revere nature and the cycles of the year, and to be Wiccan automatically means you are Pagan. But being Pagan does not mean you are Wiccan. Paganism in a Nutshell The Pagan religion and belief system is very old. It is considered that some 10,000 years ago Paganism began. These ancient people were nomadic during this time: they were hunter-gatherers and they hunted for food which means they moved to where the food was plentiful at different times of the year. From what little evidence remains (in cave drawings and archaeological findings), it is presumed that these ancient tribal cultures worshiped the sun and they honoured the animals they hunted. There are beliefs that women were the healers and they looked after the tribe’s welfare (but it is important to understand there is no firm evidence to support this). Perhaps women were considered to have more power as they gave life to the world in the form of children. It stands to reason that, given the alignmen...

November and All Saints Day

November - (Lat. novem, nine).   It was the ninth month in the ancient Roman calendar, when the year began in March. The old Dutch name was Slaghtmaand (slaughter-month, the time when the beasts were killed and salted down for winter use); the old Saxon Wind-monath (wind-month, when the fisherman took their boats ashore, and put aside fishing till the next spring); it was also called Blot-monath – the same as Slaghtmaand. In the French Republican Calendar it was called Brumaire (fog-month, 23 October to 21 November). Saxons also called it blot-monath, meaning blood month, because they killed cattle for Winter store; the name might also have referred to human sacrifice.   Frankish name: Herbistmanoth, or harvest (of animals) month. Asatru: Fogmoon. American backwoods: Beaver Moon. Almost the whole month coincides with the goddess-calendar month of Samhain (pronounced sow-ain), the feminine personification of the Nove. She is an aspect of th...

Making time for our Spiritual Self!!

In a world where we have routines to get everything done, we rarely have a routine for our spiritual self. Take the Time to Make the Time for Yourself and your Spiritual Self In a world where we have routines for nearly everything—our route to work, our physical fitness regimen, and our weekday schedule—it’s amazing how many people forget to create a routine for meeting their spiritual needs. We run around in an attempt to be at our many appointments on time and meet our many obligations. In our efforts to be as productive as possible, however, our spiritual needs tend to take a backseat. After all, taking care of our spiritual needs doesn't directly pay the bills or tone our abdominal muscles. We may even wonder who has time to meditate or write in their journal when there are more pressing matters to see to. The truth is that nurturing ourselves spiritually is what gives us the energy and grounding that we need to make sure that our lives stay on track. How you choose to nurture ...

Why Witchcraft? Why Wicca?

Many people think of Wicca as just another word for Witchcraft. Some say that Wicca is merely the 20th Century version of the Craft. Others call Wicca the "Old Religion." And some say that Wicca is totally a 20th Century invention! Many proudly proclaim that Wicca/Witchcraft is the fastest growing religion in America, while others fear that it is. Llewellyn publishes many books that have either of those words in the title, and authors use them pretty much interchangeably. I do like to define them differently, although I agree that the interest in both is growing fast, and that there are good reasons for this phenomenon. And I do mean "good" reasons. Wicca - the Religion It is easy to justify the claim that Wicca was "invented" by Gerald Gardner in the early 20th Century. Gardner himself claimed something different - that he had been initiated into a coven of Witches tracing lineage to a far past. Others have written about the "old religion" ...

Centering Yourself

Image
Centering is Easy The term 'center' refers not to the center of your physical being (your body) but to the essence or seat of your spiritual essence. Basically, it is place within you that is the seat of what makes you, *you* and the place where all your energy is directed from and to. This is very important to understand because if you consciously work with energy then you need to be able to find your center to control the energy at hand. A good example concerns grounding. There are some people who can do it naturally, but most can not. When you ground, you are opening a conduit between a source of great energy (usually the earth) and your center (which is also *you*!) for the purpose of accessing that energy for what ever it is you want to do with it. You already know where your center is and have already used it. It is the source of your life-force, the seat of your soul. When you're depressed you lose energy (natural containment's are down) and when you are ex...

Crystals and the Power of Dreams

Crystals and the Power of Dreams   Dream Therapy is one of the oldest traditions for using dreams as a basis for both physical and psychological healing. The limbic system of our brain speaks in the language of symbols. Working with dream imagery in our waking state can help change perceptions and resolve conflicts, which are critical keys for mind-body healing.   Some of the most amazing tools for healing, are the treasures the earth provides us! Crystals and gemstones are one of the most beautiful, mystical and profound "energy medicine" tools, which have been used for centuries throughout all cultures, religions and empires. These are some of my favorite crystal suggestions for dreaming:   Agate - is a special protector from bad dreams. Found throughout historic lore, agate was chosen for it's bands of different colors and placed at the head of a sleeper to give rich and varied dreams based on the color of the stone. For instance, blue banded a...

The Art of SMUDGING

Image
What is Smudging? Smudging is the Ritual of using smoke to purify a thing, person or a dwelling of any negative energy. Ever have a bad feeling about receiving a gift? Ever feel bad after meeting a certain person or place? Icky feeling in your Belly? Well, that's when we Smudge. Smudging will either get rid of the negativity or help your feelings over being in a negative situation. A gift from a cruel in-law, you'll accept it, but you don't feel good about it. By doing a simple ritual with the item, person or dwelling, you can start feeling better about it. Ever feel like your not alone in the house? Some unknown eyes staring at you from who knows where? Things missing all of a sudden become missing, then re-appear where they where you looked before? This might be signs of ghost or Poltergeist activity. Smudging is also useful in despelling spirits who are stuck here in this earthy plane. How to Smudge? Simply burning sage or other types of leaves or resins will produce t...
