Samhain Spells
Halloween-Getting Rid Of Bad Habits Spell
For many witches throughout the world, Halloween is an ideal time to
magically do away with weaknesses. The Celts of old, for instance, on
Samhain slaughtered all livestock that were too weak to live through the
coming winter.
Using a quill pen and dragon's blood ink, write upon a piece of
parchment the weaknesses you wish to be rid of. As you concentrate on
your intent, crumple up the paper in your "power hand" and toss it into
a fire or set it ablaze by holding it above the flame of a black candle.
Place it into a fireproof container such as a cast iron cauldron, and as
the parchment burns away into ashes, so too shall your weaknesses be
consumed by the flames of magic.

Prosperity Pumpkin Spell
If you need to harvest a little money, this Samhain season, try this spell.
1 small (not miniature) sized pumpkin
The amount of money that you need, written on a piece of plain white paper
in green ink (if you don't know how much you need, give a rough figure, but
don't make the request outrageous-the universe works on our needs, not
necessarily on our wants)
1 bag fresh dirt
7 dimes
7 pumpkin seeds from this pumpkin
7 ounces rain water or water from a stream (no tap or bottled water)
Pencil
Lodestone, optional
Cut the top of the pumpkin off in a scallop design (to aid in the flow of
money to you). Clean out the pumpkin. (Save the seeds for other magickal
work.) Remember to keep seven seeds for this spell. Place the pumpkin in
the refrigerator until Halloween Eve.
One-half hour before Halloween Even (not after), bring out the pumpkin, the
piece of paper with the dollar amount you need written on it, the dirt,
dimes, seeds, and the water. Place the paper in the bottom of the pumpkin.
Pour in the dirt. With the end of a pencil, make seven holes in the dirt in
a circular pattern (keep the holes at least one inch apart). Hold the fist
dime in your hand and think about the amount of money you need. (Important:
do not think negative thoughts about the money you need, no matter how
desperate you are.) Keep the dime in your hand until it grows warm and you
feel good inside. With the pencil, push the fist dime in the hole that
coincides with 12 o'clock. Follow the same procedure, going clockwise, with
the other six dimes. (If you happen to have a lodestone hanging around, bury
it in the middle of the dirt.)
Now, starting at 12 o'clock and going clockwise, pour 1 ounce of water into
each hold think of your prosperity as you pour the water into each hole.
When you are finished, hold your hands over the pumpkin and say:
One Dime for beginnings
One dime for drawing
One dime for growth
One dime for stability
One dime for banishing negativity
One dime for luck
One dime to seal the spell.
So mote it be!
Bury the pumpkin outside on your property the following night one-half hour
before midnight (no later).

Calling The Pumpkins Spell
By Ellen Dugan; Spell-A-Day
Color of the day: Coral
Incense of the day: Carnation
Try carving up four small pumpkins and then tuck tea-light candles inside. Imagine using these for quarter candles on this October Full Moon. Halloween/Samhain is only a few days away—why not get into the spirit of things and add some enchantment to your group's Full Moon celebration? Carve the pumpkins in whatever design you prefer: simple faces, stars, a triple Moon, a pentagram, or elemental symbols. As you go to place them at the quarters, try this quarter call.
In the eastern quarter I call knowledge and intuition true.
At the southern quarter I call for passion and courage in all that we do.
Here in the west grant us visions and bless us with love.
In the north I call for security and strength from the gods above.

Autumn Stone Protection Spell
Every home can benefit from protection. This spell employs one of nature’s sturdiest objects, a stone. Choose a plain rock at least as big as your fist. Set it on your altar between a bowl of salt and a bowl of water. Behind these, light a black candle. Sprinkle the stone with salt, saying: “I consecrate this stone with the purifying power of salt.” Sprinkle it with water, saying: “I consecrate this stone with the cleansing power of water.” Pass it over the flame, saying: “I consecrate this stone with the attraction of flame to moth.” Finally, trace a pentagram on the stone with your finger, and say:
To watch and guard around my home,
I invoke the strength of stone.
All evil thoughts be drawn within:
Strike here and leave me alone!
Blow out the candle; empty the salt and water outside. Keep the rock near your door

Autumn Healing Spell
by Silver Ravenwolf; Halloween
You can prepare this lovely spell container by working magick as a group, or as an individual working alone. You will need one dried, hollowed out gourd. Cut off the top. Place a picture of the person who needs healing energy in the gourd. If you already have a lot of magickal supplies (herbs, powders, oils, gems, etc.) sit quietly and think about the person.
Ask your patron God or Goddess (or totem animal/guardian angel) to lead you in the right direction for what should be included in the healing gourd. Fill the gourd with empowered items thinking about the health of the individual. Add a few things that will make noise if you shake the gourd. When you are finished, seal the gourd by gluing the top back on.
Paint the person's name on the gourd along with any magickal symbols or sigils that matches the individual's personality. If you don't have magickal supplies, you might want to get out your copy of Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Herbs. Tie dried flowers, herbs, charms, and amulets to a rawhide cord or silk cord around the neck of the gourd. When you give the gourd as a gift, shake it while you hand it to the person to activate the magick.
Here are some of the items you can put in your gourds:
1. A picture of the person.
2. Rosemary - banishing negativity, healing. (dried)
3. Orange Peel - success. (dried)
4. Basil - helps herbs and items work in tandem.
5. One rose petal - love.
6. One penny (from each person working on the healing).
7. One cowry shell (clear vision.)
8. Cloves (protection).
9. Cinnamon (success).
10. Goddess statue or charm for each gourd.
11. Amber and jet beads for those who reached the rank of HPS.
12. Three drops of healing oil.
13. Three drops of success oil.
14. Three crystals.
You don't have to use these exact ingredients. They are only listed here to give you and idea of what can be used. A bit of Orris Root will help the herbs retain their aroma.

A Janus Samhain Spell
By Edain McCoy
Thousands of rituals and spells have been composed for Samhain. On this night when the boundaries of life and death are blurred we honor our ancestors, and we remember others who have passed over that we never knew. What has been part of our past shapes our future. This Samhain we might also want to look forward. Someday we will be the past that helped shape someone else’s future. Janus was the two-faced Roman god for whom January is named. One face looks to the past, the other to the future. Turn to face the west, the land of the dead and the deities, saying:
Janus, who looks into the night toward the place where spirits seek light,
bless all souls who come now as they hear it, and dance in the circle of spirit.
Turn to face the east, the point of the rising Sun, away from death and into the promise of a new day, saying:
Janus, who into the day at dawn’s first glow and Sun’s first ray, bless this circle without hesitation, and fear not the past nor times not yet here.

A Celtic Bonfire Spell
By James Kambos
Color of the day: White
Incense of the day: Clove
Traditionally, November 5th is Bonfire Night in England, which observes the failed Gunpowder Plot of Guy Fawkes. Many English Witches, however, believe the ritual bonfires burnt on this night date back to Celtic times. To the Celts, this day marked the end of the Samhain observance.
The Celts believed this was the beginning of the dark half of the year. The bonfires were a way to pay tribute to the life-giving Sun before entering the dark season. Spells on this holy night should focus on burning away all problems and fears. This could be done in several ways.
You could simply write down your problems and burn the paper in a ritual fire. Another way is to select small twigs from trees you feel are appropriate to your need. Then snap them in half before feeding them to the blaze. If you wish, poppets symbolizing your need may also be burnt in a fire. After your fires, save the ashes, for they are considered to be sacred. In late winter or early spring, they should be spread over a field or garden to ensure fertility.
