A Samhain Tarot Reading Ritual

When summer's end draws near, and the doorway between this world and the
Otherworld is revealed, the celebration of Samhain takes place. In many
traditions, this is the time when we commune with the ancestors and if we
dare, the faeries. On this night (October 31) the voice of the Otherworld
is heard through acts of divination and, if the tool is interpreted
properly, it will guide us through the next wheel of our life.

To perform a Samhain tarot reading ritual, create a sacred circle by
acknowledging the Otherworld faery cities:

Falias in the Ulster North,
Gorias in the Leinster East,
Findias in the Munster, South,
Murias in the Connaught West,
Powers of the Otherworld cities,
Protect me now.

Stand in the center of the circle, aligning with the Crann na Beatha or the
Tree of Trees, by saying:

Heavenly realm and the starlight above,
Realm of the plains and the starlight within,
Underworld realm and the starlight below,
I am one with you now.

Draw starlight down into the crown of your head and through your body,
grounding it into the infinite source within the Earth's core. Do this by
visualizing and pulling the light down through your body.

Light he altar candle, acknowledging the spirit of fire. Offer incense to
the ancestors or to the faeries if you wish. After this prayer take n
oracle, such as the Faery Wicca Tarot, in hand and settle down before the
altar. Holding the oracle in your hands, ask for this blessing from the
faeries:

Draoi Gebann, teacher of Faeryland,
Brigid, inspiration of the soul,
Angus Og, poetic wisdom,
Anand, great prophesy,
Speak through this oracle to me.
Guide me through this wheel's turning.
The time has come for me to know.

Begin to shuffle the cards, and when you feel ready, lay the cards out in a
chosen spread. Take your time interpreting each position, listening to the
voice of the faeries as they speak to your inner ear.

Be sure to record the reading in your sacred journal, detailing every aspect
of it - for you will continue to work off this information until the next
Samhain.

When you have completed your ritual, put your oracle away, and standing in
the center of your sacred space, give thanks to whomever you asked for
guidance by saying:

Thank you for your wisdom.
Your guidance has been received.
I dedicate myself to following it.

Bring your awareness to your center, located at the navel of your body, and
acknowledge the support given you from the Otherworld. Extinguish your
candle.
