The Magickal Apple

The Magickal Apple

Apple Magick
The apple, sacred to Witches, is the magick symbol of love or to improve
your sexual prowess. If you cut an apple through it's middle,
the five seeds form a perfect pentacle with the red skin of the apple
forming the circle. In some places it is believed that if you peel an apple
without breaking the spiralling skin, when it drops to the floor or on the
table, it will form the initials of the person who will be your own true
love. The custom of eating an apple a day to keep the doctor away began
most
likely as a love practice. An apple a day brings love to stay!

Another magickal practice used by a young girl to determine
which of several suitors loved her the most was to take an apple seed for
each suitor and toss them one at a time into a fire. The seed that
popped --
or popped the loudest -- indicated the young man whose heart was bursting
with love for her.

This apple spell is simple. All it requires is an apple.
After every new
moon, hold an apple in both hands, and sit or stand where it
can absorb the sunlight, or at least pick up the light of the day. Cast
this
spell before you take the first bite.

"O lovely lady, Goddess of Might,
I honour your beauty and love.
Bring to me a love that is right
Sent by the stars above."
As you take the first bite, think about the Goddess and the
stars above (as well as the five-pointed "seed star" in your hand). Imagine
the sweet, moist love-fruit turning into a wild, juicy romance!

APPLE
by Sarah the Swampwitch

Latin name: Malus spp.

Parts Used: The fruit and the bark.

Herbal uses: A syrup made from Apples is a good cordial used to
treat fainting, palpitations, and melancholy. The Romans used ripe
Apples for laxatives and the unripe ones to treat diarrhea. An
infusion of the peels is good as an wash for eye infection. They are
also a good source of vitamins (A, B1, C) and minerals, so are good
to use in anemia and general debility. The Apple is also good for
your teeth - cleansing to the teeth on account of its juices, and
just hard enough to mechanically push back the gums so that the
borders are cleared of deposits. Rotten apples can be used as a
poultice for sore eyes.

Associations & Magickal history: Apple is associated with the
planets Venus and the Sun, and the element of water. In Magickal
circles the Apple is often called the Fruit of the Underworld, the
Silver Bough, the Tree of Love or the Silver Branch. The Apple is
associated with the following deities: Venus, Hercules, Diana, King
Arthur, Dionysius, Olwen, Apollo, Hera, and Athena. Also, in the
Edda, the old Scandinavian saga, Iduna kept Apples in a box, that she
gave to the gods to eat, thereby to renew their youth. Apples were
present in many Greek legends, including the Apple of Discord which
Paris awarded to Aphrodite. Nemesis, the Goddess of Retribution, was
often depicted carrying Apple branches to symbolize the
inescapability of death. Only in Xtian mythology does the Apple have
negative meaning. The Apple is the forbidden fruit that the serpent
tempted Eve with - and the term 'Adam's Apple' comes from a Xtain
superstition that relates that a piece of the forbidden Apple stuck
in Adam's throat, and his descendants ever after had the lump in the
front of the neck which is so named. The angel of death, Azrael,
could accomplish his mission by holding Apple to the nostrils.

Magickal Uses: Apple is used in Love, Healing, Garden, and
Immortality magick. A common folk spell says to bury an Apple at
midnight on Samhain eve to feed those waiting for rebirth. Also on
Samhain it was traditional for a large Apple to be given to each
member of the household to be eaten for good luck in the new year.
Apple has been used in spells for hundreds of years. You can
substitute Apple cider for the blood or wine called for in some
ancient spells and rites. The wood is good material for wands used
for love spells and rituals. Wassailing the orchard-trees' on Yule
Eve used to be a popular thing to do. The farmer and his family and
workers would go out to the orchard after supper, carrying along a
jug of cider and a plate of hot cakes. The cakes were placed in the
boughs of the oldest or best bearing trees in the orchard, while the
cider was flung over the trees after the farmer had drunk their
health in some such fashion as the following:

"Here's to thee, old apple-tree!
Whence thou may'st bud, and whence thou may'st blow,
Hats full! Caps full!
Bushel - bushel-bags full!
And my pockets full too! Huzza!'

The toast was repeated three times, the men and boys often firing
off guns and pistols, and the women and children shouting loudly.
Roasted Apples were sometimes placed in the pitcher of cider, and
were thrown at the trees with the liquid. Trees that did not produce
much fruit were not honored with wassailing but it was thought that
the more productive ones would cease to bear if the rite were
omitted. Apples can be used for divination. The Apple can be peeled
in one long continuous peeling. the peeling is then flung over the
shoulder and whatever letter the peeling forms is said to be the
first letter of the person that you will some day marry. The Apple
seeds can also be looked at to foretell the future.

Apple Tree
By Janet Dane

We are Apple. Our Soul Mates are other species of Apple, for our energies match very closely.
Under the umbrella of Apple energy, my Soul Mate is Golden Delicious or Crabapple or Granny
Smith apple, where my own particular perspective is that of MacIntosh. These are just names.
But this may give you an idea of our closeness.
Although we are very different than the energy of Granite, we are close enough in energy to
perceive each other in our own ways and to interact with each other in our own ways. The
others are in our awareness, if not in close proximity, then as far as energy patterns go.
In human terms, under the umbrella of your Parent Soul, there are many like you, whose energies
match very closely. And as such, when you greet them, it is with a sense of deep familiarity and
intimacy. Whether or not this evolves into a working relationship or physical relationship in this
lifetime is an other issue altogether. It is for each Soul to decide.
Twin Rays, on the other hand, are energies that have divided and are exploring in their own way.
Like identical twins who are born of the same physical stuff, that grow to be two distinctly
different people, Twin Rays are born of the same energy stuff and grow off in their own
directions. Their energies match so closely because of their recent Oneness, that they may
find it difficult to know, at times, where one leaves off and the other begins.
They are as though the Parent Soul has given birth to one energy that decides to split right
then and there, and to move forward in different areas of understanding. Again this has little to
do with your agreements at a Soul level, to meet or greet or be with each other in any particular
lifetime. When you come across someone who may be a Twin Ray, it will be like meeting
yourself. But this is very, very rare. You are far more likely to meet someone in your Soul Group
than your Twin Flame.
Regardless of the closeness or the distance apart, regardless of the contracts that you make
or don't make with people who may be in your Soul Group, with a Soul Mate or with a Twin
Flame, understand that any energy that you notice, that you see, or that you have in your life
has great value to you.
We may live under the umbrella of all Apple but we interact in our own unique Apple-ish way
with everything that crosses our path. Our Apple-ness helps to define what crosses our path
and all that crosses our path helps to define our Apple-ness. All that does not cross our path
defines our Apple-ness as we define all that does not cross our path.
In this moving energy you call life, enjoy it when you touch upon an energy that is familiar to
you, but know that your life revolves around energies that are not that familiar. We are Apple.

Apple...............
The apple is the Celtic tree of regeneration and eternal life.
Apples represent the sun, the source of all life.
The apple is symbolic of love, healing, and immortality and indicate the
ability to make choices.
Apple orchards were especially protected as sacred ground.
Apples were offered to the dead and buried at Samhain as food for those
waiting to be reborn.
Burn apple blossoms as incense.
Use apple cider in any spells calling for blood or wine.
An old folk spell says to cut an apple into three pieces, then rub the cut
side on warts, saying: "Out warts, into apple." Then bury the pieces, and as
the apple decays, the warts will disappear.
An apple cut in half lengthwise displays the pentacle.
Apples make excellent gifts to the gods.

The Apple Tree- the custodian of wisdom and sign of the soul. Freya, the goddess of wisdom
walks through heaven dispensing golden apples to the gods which will give them the gift of
wisdom and understanding. To grow an apple tree in the garden is a happy omen. The druids
believe that apple trees grow in the Celtic paradise. The day of the apple tree is Friday (Freya`s
day) and it`s star is Venus. King Arthur was taken to the Vale of Avalon, the Apple Vale to heal
his wounds. The apple tree man dwells in the middle of the apple trees. He is the guardian of
their fertility and the fairy protector of the spirit of the goddess.

APPLE (Domestic)
Another sacred tree to the Druids. It is said that you may cut an apple into three pieces, then rub the cut side on warts, saying: "Out warts, into
apple." Then bury the pieces and as the apple decays, the warts will
disappear. Use apple cider in any old spells calling for blood or wine. Apple indicates choice, and is useful for love and healing magic.

Apple - Temptation
Imagine the perfect apple, ripe and bursting with life. Sliced in half, it reveals a beautiful five-point
symmetry-a star formed by the seeds inside. In fact, each of these five seeds may be seen to contain
a symbolism of its own mirroring the spiritual aspects of this universal symbol: idea, sustenance, life,
secret knowledge and the hidden mysteries within the earth.
*******************************
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away," you say? Did you know
that people who work in cider, vinegar and applesauce plants often
suffer fewer colds and other respiratory ailments than the rest of
us? Or that if apples and apple juice are substituted for citrus in
the diet, arthritic conditions are improved ?
*******************************
A little apple juice boiled with cinnamon helps settle an upset
stomach. As early as the 13th Century, baked apples served with a
few caraway seeds were recommended for post dinner digestive. The
tradition of serving applesauce with pork and goose stems from the
fact that the acids in the apple help the digestion of other foods.

Indeed, the unsweetened juice of the apple can help reduce
acidity of the stomach. Raw sour apples are stewed apples help cure
even severe cases of constipation. Hot apple juice with or without
honey helps sooth sore throats.

But apples are cultivated not only for their medicinal properties
and culinary uses, they can also have a very important place in myth
and legend.

Apple is one of the Celtic holy trees, one of the woods from
which magic rune staves could be carved, and from which the Druids
gathered their secret mistletoe symbol of healing and fertility.

Avalon, the island to which the dying King Arthur was taken, was
called " The Isle Of Apples "; it was thought to be the Garden of
Hesperides, where Jason and the Argonauts came to find the golden
apples of immortality.

The much maligned apple of the Garden of Eden was probably a
pomegranate. Other, familiar legends have evil witches and
sorcerers poisoning or turning apples into love charms to surprise
the unwary.

At one time, I actually came across an old spell for making a love apple:

Take a 2 colored apple. Breathe on the green part and rub the red
part with red flannel. Then say, " Fire sweet and fire red, warm the
heart and turn the head. " Kiss the red part and give it to your
intended. When it's eaten he/she is yours !! Enough tales. Let's
take our apples to the kitchen.

Witches Apple Pudding:

Dough:
2 cups flour
4 Tsp. baking powder
3/4 cup milk
1/2 Tsp. salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg

Combine the above ingredients as you would for biscuits and set aside for later.

Fillings:
6 apples sliced
1 Tsp. cinnamon
3 Tsp. sugar or honey
1 Tsp. nutmeg

Combine in baking dish.

Syrup:
1 cup water
1 Tsp. butter
1 cup sugar or 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup honey.

Bring syrup to a boil. Drop the biscuit mixture on top of the
fruit. Pour hot syrup over all and bake at 375 degrees for about 40
minutes. Serve warm. Vanilla ice cream makes a lovely addition.

Apple and Raisin Oatmeal Cookies

1 cup sugar or 1/2 honey & sugar
1 cup of milk
1 cup of butter
2 eggs
1 scant Tsp. soda
2 cups flour
1 Tsp. cinnamon
2 cups old fashioned oatmeal
1 large diced apple { Leave skin on }

Cream sugar, butter and eggs. Add milk. Add dry ingredients. Mix
well and stir in apple. Drop onto cookie sheet and bake at 350-375
degrees. This makes a large, soft cookie.

For the lazy or calorie minded, try microwaving an apple after
you've cored it. Sprinkle on a little cinnamon and ground cloves,
add a few drops of maple syrup, some sunflower seeds or chopped
nuts. Put it in the microwave for 5 minutes and behold!
A magickal desert!
