Cinnamon-My Kitchen Herb of the Week

The bark of the cinnamon tree is actually a spice, grown on plantations in
far-off climes. However, it is sovereign for love magic, prosperity, and
protection. Cinnamon can be burned on a block as incense, used to flavor
food, used in potpourris, and just smelled. Give the ones you love cinnamon
treats or hand out heart-shaped cinnamon 'red hots' as 'happy pills.' I find
that lighting a red, cinnamon-scented candle helps me to focus on and
complete housework, too.
Basic Happy Home Simmering Potpourri
Mix together cinnamon chips for prosperity and protection, cloves to stop
hostility and gossip, orange peel for joy, lemon balm for cheer, rosemary
for purification, mint for health, sage for wisdom, and dill seed for
prosperity. Charge under three day's sun and moon if possible, asking the
blessing of the Lord and Lady. To use, mix a small amount (2 spoonsful)
with water and heat in a simmerer or in a pot on the stove.
Do not apply cinnamon bark oil on bare skin-- it will burn!
CINNAMON

Cinnamon comes from the inner bark of the cinnamomum verum, an laurel-
like evergreen tree from Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Cinnamon is harvested in
the rainy season when the bark is more pliable. The inner bark is
then, rolled and dried. You can buy cinnamon in stick or powdered
form.

Most of the cinnamon in the United States is from the Cassia tree.
This has a stronger flavor and is cheaper than the "real" cinnamon.

In the Middle East and India, cinnamon flavors meats, vegetables and
rice. But in the rest of the world, most cinnamon is found in baked
goods.

Most powdered spices, including cinnamon, can only retain freshness
up to 6 months. The stick form, usually last a couple of years. If it
is not fresh, the flavor will be just less cinnamony...it won't go
rancid.

Oh yeah! It is not recommended for anyone to buy the largest
container of an herb or spice, unless they really cook or bake,
because the spice loses flavor.

Cinnamon leaf oil has been used for centuries to treat:
lice, scabies, teeth, gums, warts and wasp stings.
It aids in poor circulation and rheumatism, anorexia, colitis,
diarrhea, constipation, chills, colds, and flus.

Never place cinnamon bark oil on your skin. It will burn your skin!

Cinnamon-

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum Zeylancia, also called Cinnamon Sticks and Cider Sticks) was used by the Egyptians 3500 years ago, and it was utilized by wealthy Romans as perfume and others as an aphrodisiac. Nero burned all that was in Rome when one of his wives died. It comes from the bark of the tree C. Zeylancia and shouldn't be confused with C. Cassia which is what is considered Cinnamon in China. (I mistakenly bought powdered Cassia some years back, and upon simmering it in water to freshen the house, I found it turned into something so slimey I won't go into details. Real Cinnamomum Zeylancia doesn't do this)

Magickal Uses:

Cinnamon is an herb of consecration, a Green Herbe, an herb of purification, a visionary herb, and an herb of love. Cinnamon is a popular herb to use in money charms to draw prosperity. Use it for Magickal healing, and to help clairvoyance. Burn it as incense or add it to any charm to draw money. It helps increase concentration, so it would be an ideal herb for those having trouble focusing. Cinnamon is associated with Tourlamine, and it would be good for consecrating any ritual tool in conjunction with this gemstone. The Magick of this herb is said to be peaceful, thus enabling the correct mind-set for ritual work. It can be used to enhance one's skill with prophecy through channeling, working with an oracle, or through divanation.

Medicinal and Other Uses:
Cinnamon sticks are often used in hot drinks such as mulled wine, cider, hot chocolate, and coffee to add a zing on a cold night, or festive occasion. The real Cinnamon is Zeylancia, but some folks do prefer the Cassia because it has a stronger scent. Cinnamon oil used in a diffuser can help kill infectious airborne bacteria in the home. It is used as an analgesic, antibacterial, antiseptic, carminative, digestive, expectorant, stimulant and vermifuge. The leaf oil can used in tonics, antiseptics, and in remedies for intestinal gas, nausea, colds, and hypertension. Because can it cause sweating it is good for use to break fevers. Cinnamon is also used for menorrhagia (heavy menstruation) and for yeast infections. Cinnamaldehyde and Cinnamon oil vapors are extremely potent antifungal compounds. Preliminary human evidence confirms this effect in studies of AIDS patients with oral candida (thrush) infections that improved with application of Cinnamon oil. **WC** Cinnamon oil is extremely potent and should be used with caution regardless of the species used. I will warn you in advance go lightly because the pure oil produces a burning sensation on the skin. It should NOT be administered during pregnancy as it has been linked to possible miscarriages. (it is a possible uterine stimulant) I'd also suggest not using the pure oil on children as they are more susceptible.

(Cinnamomum zeylanicum and Cinnamomum cassia)

Element: fire
Deity: Apollo
Animal: lion
Body part: heart
Tarot: The Sun

Cinnamon is the bark from a lauraceous tree. While the tree is said to be of the moon, the spice is of the sun and has long been hailed as a preserver of life.

Cinnamon was not only used as a medicine and ritual incense but it may have been used for mummification, to make the body smell sweet.[3]

Practitioners of natural medicine describe cinnamon as boosting immunity and tripling "insulin's ability to metabolize blood sugar."[4] Taoist practitioners used it to purify the body. It is also used as an astringent and antiseptic which is why many mouthwashes are cinnamon flavoured.

Magickally, cinnamon is used in love spells, for promoting psychic awareness, and in money spells. Mixed with myrrh, it is used as incense for rituals involving the summoning of spirits.

Love Drawing Pouch

This pouch is used to draw love towards you. While this spell could easily be adapted to draw a specific person to you, it is written so to draw an unnamed person possessing the traits you desire.

Items needed:
Red pouch
Copper Penny
Cinnamon sticks, broken into bits (you will need approx. a spoonful)
Red votive candle
Dish to burn candle on
Pin or bent paperclip for writing on candle

When to perform: To draw the love of a man, perform on a sunny day when the sun is still rising in the sky. To draw the love of a woman, perform at night during the waxing moon.

First, set up your working space. You can use flowers associated with love, anything heart-shaped, copper trinkets, etc. For small spells such as this, I use thin red tape (red is the color of love as well as energy) and tape the shape of the five-pointed star upon the white counter-top. In the centre of the star, the belly, is where I put my candle and whatever else is directly involved in the spell.

When your space is set up, take the red votive and, using a pin or bent paperclip, begin writing on the candle what you are seeking. Be as precise as possible and list attributes of your potential mate (honesty, good sense of humor, etc.). By doing this you are focusing on what you intend to draw towards you and instilling this into the candle.

Set the candle down, in the center of your workspace and on top of the copper (metal of Venus) penny. Use a dish to burn the candle on if necessary.

Light the candle while, at the same time, feeling a burst of love and need in your chest and gut.

While the candle is burning, it is sending out your intentions. During this time, break off about a spoonful of cinnamon. Use a small handsaw if necessary, but be very careful. If you are unable to get a hold of a cinnamon stick, you can use ground cinnamon and sew a spoonful of it into a small pouch. This is messy and not recommended but sometimes you need to make do with what you have at hand.

Place the cinnamon bits into the small red pouch.

As the candle burns and melt, take some of the run-off wax and form it into a small heart. Place this inside the pouch.

When the candle has finished burning, remove the penny from under the candle and place it inside the pouch.

Clean up your workspace.

Either place your love drawing pouch inside your undies drawer (no socks allowed unless you want your love to stink) or wear it/keep it on your person.

Cinnamon Money Spell

For a quick cash fix, you'll need:
tape-green (money), red (energy), or masking tape with crayon
green votive candle
ground cinnamon

This is what worked for me when I needed the money to get my two pixies news mattresses and box springs and I couldn't wait around for a scheduled check to arrive.

First, tape down a five-pointed star on a clean, flat working surface. If you don't have red or green tape you can use white for all-purpose or color masking tape with a crayon.

On the green votive candle, write the amount of money that you need and what you need it for. Use a pin or bent paperclip.

Set the candle in the centre, belly, of the five-pointed star.

Next, place a small pinch of cinnamon on each of the five corners of the star.

Light the candle while visualizing yourself with the item you need the money for. If you need the money for a bill, visualize yourself holding a piece of paper saying "Bill Paid."

Allow the candle to burn down completely.
