Green tea is made from the Camellia sinensis plant. Most of us know
about drinking it for health reasons. Did you know that it can be
used in other ways?
The leaf of the Camellia sinensis is used in making green tea. It has
astringent properties and is full of vitamin C and vitamin E. Green
tea has cancer fighting antioxidants and it helps boost your immune
system.
Other ways of using green tea are :
1. Skin toner. Use 1 bag of green tea to 2 cups of water (distilled),
steep for 15 minutes, apply to face, do not rinse.
2. Hair Rinse. Make a strong tea and wrap wet hair in cloth soaked in
the tea. Leave in for 20 minutes and shampoo. I like to add rosemary
(my favorite scent) to the tea, for extra fragrance. Rosemary is good
for dark hair.
3. Foot Soak. Many herbs are good for this. I grow my own herbs and
like to add some lavender or rose petals and sometimes sage to the
green tea and let it steep for 20 minutes. Be sure you use a glass or
enamel ware container for the foot bath. Soak in warmed tea mixture
for at least 30 minutes. As it cools, add more hot water. This feels
great.
4. A bag of black or green tea can be used on sore, tired muscles, or
on tired red eyes.
5. If you have been sun burned, a cold cloth soaked in green tea is
very soothing.
Green tea can be found almost anywhere. Every health food store
carries it. Most pharmacies and grocery stores have it now also.
Try green tea!
