September Full Moon

September:Wine Moon ,Harvest Moon:
Is the Full Moon that appears nearest to the Mabon festival. It can be used specifically to call in favors or to add extra protection.

It's a good idea to sit down with your yearly calendar and mark the moon phases and holidays for the coming year. Some Witches use Samhain to make this part of their New Year ritual and preparation for the coming Wiccan year.

September:Wine Moon
- Grape and Fruit Harvest - Life's Blood - Protection - Confidence - Strength
The Vegetable gardens are harvested and now we move on to the grapes. If
possible, catch the reflection of the Full Wine Moon in a silver chalice
of white wine. After you take a sip of the moon blessed wine, contemplate
the transformation of your spirit.

Marking the season when domestic animals were sacrificed for winter provisions. Libra's full moon occasionally became the Wine Moon when a grape harvest was expected to produce a superior vintage.

Native Americans named each full moon of the year as they corresponded with certain seasonal activities and changes. In September, most of the crops that grew throughout the summer were ripe and ready to be reaped, hence the name of Harvest Moon.
The famed Harvest Moon in September represents the end of the harvest; in Native American cultures the full moon nearest the autumnal equinox, whether in September or October, gave a final glow of light to the fields from which they drew their bounty. The original people of this land would see this moon and know that they had only a small remaining time frame to finish their gathering duties.
The September moon is also known as the Barley Moon or Corn Moon, because those were some of the crops that were being harvested at this time.
In the southern hemispheres, where it is the spring equinox, this moon is known as the Worm Moon, or the Sap Moon.

September is the time when the waning of the Sun becomes more evident. The days are noticeably shorter, and the leaves on the trees are starting to turn. The harvest is reaching its peak.

Each full moon has a name, and the September full moon closest to the Fall equinox (Mabon) carries the name Harvest Moon. It behaves in a special way - it rises around sunset, and about the same time in the next few evenings. The earlier moonrise means no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise. In the days before electric lights, the September full moon - the Harvest Moon - would rise in the east not long after sunset to illuminate the fields for several more hours of harvesting.

The Fall equinox is the main harvest festival of the ancient earth-based calendar and marks the beginning of Autumn. The Goddess is manifested as a Bountiful Mother and the God emerges as the Corn King and Harvest Lord. It is a time for celebration of nature's bounty and of thanksgiving.

Vine Moon

September 2 – September 30

The Autumn Equinox, when night and day are of equal length, occurs during
the month of the Vine Moon. It helps you realign your energy to prepare for
the dark half of the year. The month of the Vine Moon is a time to value
input from others and any networks that are made may prove useful in the
future.

Focus on magic that resolves; cast a peace spell to end an argument or use
prosperity magic to help you settle bills and pay off existing debts. Magic
must be balanced with action now, so use natures’ last burst of energy,
visible in the vibrant fall colors, to inspire you to complete projects that
you started earlier in the year. Invest in your health during this month by
eating foods packed with vitamin C to stave off colds as the weather
declines, and boost your energy levels with herbal drinks.

Fertility And Concentration

The vines is the only plant in the Celtic Tree Calendar not native to
northern climes, although it features in much Bronze Age art. It was
cultivated by migrants from southern Europe. The name vine comes from the
word “viere,” meaning “to twist.” This refers to the Druidic concept of
spiritual development.

Fruits Of The Vine

In the colder north, the vine was substituted with blackberries. Both are
used in wine, in money spells and are linked to fairies. Pictures of
grapevines were painted onto garden walls in ancient Rome to ensure the
fertility of the household. Eating grapes and blackberries is a magical
remedy that aids memory and concentration.

3) Take some time to collect your thoughts and then make your wish.

4) Finish the charm by eating a grape and saying: “So mote it be.”

The Full Wine Moon Ritual celebrates the bounty of the Earth which supports and sustains us through the winter months. At this time we can also celebrate the bounty that Spirit brings into our lives.

Full Wine Moon Esbat Ritual

Purpose: To celebrate the bounty of the Earth Mother, which allows us to survive during the dormancy of winter.

Tools

White candle in candleholder, to represent Spirit
Fresh flower petals, to represent the bounty of the Earth
Clear glass bowl (a cauldron may also be used), filled with water
A piece of white cloth large enough to contain flower petals
The Working[i]

Oh Full Wine Moon, Mother Moon, you bring me the opportunity
celebrate the bounty of the Earth and
the bounty you have brought into my life.

Sprinkle flower petals on water. Light white candle.

Lady of the Moon, of the stars and the Earth;
Lord of the Sun, of the forests and hills;
I perform a ritual of thanks.
My love shines like the flame;
My love floats like the petals
Upon You.

Lady of the Waters, of flowers and the sea;
Lord of the Air, of horns and of fire;
I perform a ritual of thanks.
My love shines like the flame;
My love floats like the petals.
Upon You.

Lady of the Caves, of cats and snakes;
Lord of the Plains, of falcons and stags;
I perform a ritual of thanks.
My love shines like the flame;
My love floats like the petals
Upon You.

Sending the Energy

She changes everything she touches; everything she touches changes.
As this candle burns, my will be done.
This, or something better, for the Highest Good of all concerned.
Imagine celebratory energy flowing to God, Goddess, and Spirit; stand in Goddess position and "let go."

Remove the petals from the water. Place them in the center of the white cotton cloth. Wrap the cloth around the petals.

After the Ritual

Let the white candle burn out.

Take the white cotton cloth and the bowl with the water outside, along with the remainder of the wine, the cakes, the ashes from the incense, and the remains of the white candle. Pour the wine on the earth and place the cookie and ashes on the ground. Pour the water from the bowl or cauldron on the ground.

Dig a hole in the ground in which to put the wax from the candle and the white cloth with the flower petals.

I give these symbols of my thanks and devotion.
What I take I freely give.
Accept these offerings, Goddess and God.
May it strengthen my bonds with you.

Blessed be.
