Spring Cleaning … for Your Health!

Spring Cleaning

Candlemas

Spring-cleaning is ever so much easier if you do it in concert with an anti-clutter campaign. The basic rule is that every surface gets cleaned; for a little magickal boost, put some rosemary or another blessing herb in the wash water. It is important to approach this cleaning not as a tiresome chore, but as a gift to yourself and the goddess of hearth and home. Play music, work with friends, pause and appreciate the work you’ve done every so often; and finish each day with a bath and a wonderful supper. Follow the physical house cleaning with a spiritual House Cleansing and Blessing Ritual.

House Cleansing And Blessing

Once your home is clean and uncluttered, you may want to spiritually cleanse and bless it.... especially if any of the following apply:

The house has not been purified since you moved in.

There has been serious illness in the home since your last house blessing.

There have been arguments or even physical violence in the house.

Anyone in the house has been very depressed or unhappy for any reason.

If any hardship or tragedy has befallen the residents.

Spring Yard Cleaning And Landscaping

As long as you’re cleansing the inside of your house, you may as well do the outside – assuming you have an outside, and are not living in [an] Apartment....

If you do have a yard, even a little one, clean it up. Pick up trash, water the plants, seed any bare spots, and clip the bushes. If need be, paint the exterior of your house, or at least those peeling spots on the trim. Then think “landscaping.” Is there room for an herb garden? A rock garden? A trellis with ivy or rose bushes? A birdhouse? A little shrine to your favorite deity? A recycling fountain?

Sanctuary Room

Do you have enough room in your home that there’s an extra room to use for a sanctuary room? A place where you can go for quiet time, peace, rest, relaxation, meditation and even re-creation. Spring would be a good time to cleanse, create and dedicate one.

Altar And Ritual Tools

Spring is also a good time too to cleanse and re-consecrate your ritual tools and alter.

Spring Cleaning for the Heart and Soul
by Jackie Griswold

Much as our houses and work spaces may have become cluttered and
filled with cobwebs over the long winter, our minds and bodies can
also get "cluttered."  Spring is a good time to detoxify ourselves
with some natural herbal teas, aromatherapy blends, and stress
reduction techniques.

This article offers some ideas to clean out the cobwebs in our hearts
and souls.

MASSAGE OR DIFFUSER OIL BLENDS

The following blends of essential oils can be used either as diffuser
oils, using a light bulb ring or an actual diffuser, or, with the
addition of 2 ounces of almond or another vegetable oil, as massage
oils.  Modify the basic massage oil recipe with the addition of the
other oil blends.

Stress Less Massage Oil - these are all relaxing, stress-relieving
scents.  If you don't have time for a massage, just rub a few drops
of the oil into your temples, or onto your wrists.

8 drops lavender essential oil
4 drops geranium
2 drops clary sage
2 drops spruce
2 ounces almond oil (or any other vegetable oil)

Add the essential oils to the vegetable oil and mix well.  Shake well
before using as a massage or body oil.

Other Blends

Meditation Blend - both scents are calming and are used to increase a
meditative focus

12 drops sandalwood
2 drops rose

Energizing Blend - the combination of mint and spice increases energy
and makes you more alert, while the orange relieves stress

8 drops orange
2 drops cinnamon
2 drops peppermint
2 drops spearmint

Relax, Relax, Relax Blend - this will calm your children (and you!)
in the evening, and the chamomile and lavender will also lift your
spirits if you're a bit down in the dumps

10 drops lavender
2 drops chamomile
2 drops ylang ylang

Clean and Refreshing Blend - in the kitchen or bath, this scent blend
creates a feeling of cleanliness.  Also use it when you need energy
or to think more quickly - as a physical or mental uplift

12 drops lemon oil
3 drops eucalyptus oil

HERBAL ELIXIRS TO DETOXIFY

Spring Pear Elixir

2 ripe Anjou pears, peeled, seeded, and cored
3 cups unsweetened apple juice
3 teaspoons fresh grated ginger
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
20 drops Siberian ginseng tincture
